ABOUT ME
Hello, My name is Instructor Azulao. I began my serious Capoeira journey 22 years ago. While in college at North Carolina A&T State University, I met Dr. William Martin who was at the time a student of Mestre Nego Gato “Nego Gato Capoeira Angola Foundation”. I studied Capoeira Angola for 8 years. While in college, Dr. Martin and I founded the first and only student martial arts organization on campus for Capoeira and Jujutsu. As an Angoleiro, I had the opportunity to meet and study with Mestre Nego Gato. In 1997, Mestre Nego Gato came to visit our school campus to perform. It was at this time that I met Mestra Jo with Capoeira Brasil. I trained hard in capoeira and taught classes all over the country. In the coming years, Mestra Jo helped me to transition to the Reginal and contemporary style of capoeira. In 2012, I joined Mandingueros Dos Palmares under Mestre Chuvisco where i am currently training and teaching.
Elementary & Middle School Program
I am passionate about education and part of that is providing our children with outlets that will help them become balanced and well rounded. Capoeira is great for developing motor skills, coordination, athleticism, focus, creativity, and social skills.
I have taken the time to develop a capoeira program for 3rd-8th grade at the Alpha Academy Charter School in Fayetteville NC. The kids are excited about this new program. They are learning to sing songs in Portuguese, play musical instruments, and move to the rhythm all at the same time. We started this program with 5th graders and it has become such a hit that we are now up to 30+ kids ranging from 3rd grade to 8th grade.

Kids Mentoring at Rec Centers
We have taken our program to the West Over Recreation Center in Fayetteville NC. If your week days are full and you have no time to run your child to classes during the week, come by West Over Recreation Center. We are offering Capoeira Classes now and it is a great resource for kids to come out and have great fun. I will be instructing classes and working with our kids to help in their development. We will also be doing shows and various events for your enjoyment.

International Events & Travel
Mandingueiros Dos Palmares is an international organization founded by Mestre Chuvisco. We travel all over the world teaching work-shops and providing services and information about capoeira. I personally travel abroad to Japan, China, Brazil, and Europe to attend events and to teach capoeira. Our Mestre is based in Boston, but for those interested in having me and Mestre to come out for events please let us know.
